In maps like this the data are standardized to allow comparison of the different types of data. Here to the left we have a map showing percentage of population of kids that are 14 years old in Canada. We are able to compare the different parts of canada by the different colors of green.map found here: http://www.statcan.gc.ca/start-debut-eng.html
